Wizkid wins Best Music Video for 'Brown Skin Girl' song with Beyonce

Nigeria's Afrobeats star Wizkid wins the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé; Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album. Beyoncé's daughter Blue Ivy was also a winner on the song. The Best Music Video award is given to the artist, video director and video producer. The video which saw Wizkid win was described as "a feast for the fashion-forward and a celebration of Black and brown female beauty everywhere."

Burna Boy wins Best Global Music Album award for 'Twice As Tall'

Nigeria's Afrobeats star Burna Boy, real name Damini Ogulu, a nominee for a second consecutive year, won the Best Global Music Award with his Twice As Tall album. Burna Boy, 29, beat four others including the Malian band, Tinariwen. The Grammys nomination described Twice As Tall as "a masterclass in the vibe and hustle that have made Burna Boy an international musical force. He continues to torch limitations, seamlessly blending styles and genres and fearlessly fuelling the fire heating the melting pot of pop, Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae and more, it said. The album features a wide range of international artists such as Stormzy, Youssou Ndour, Naughty By Nature, and Chris Martin of Coldplay, and had Sean Combs as executive producer.

MP for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has expressed his displeasure about the COVID vaccine being supplied to Ghana for free.  According to him, this only increases the dependence of 3rd world countries on the first for support. "I’m not bragging but I am prepared to give Akufo-Addo one million dollars to procure the vaccines,... I don t like the idea of always going to the developed countries to beg for support as though we cannot do anything for ourselves,” he said. He also called on his fellow Ghanaian businessmen to rise and support the government procure the vaccines.

On Tuesday, 9th March 2021, the President of Ghana delivered to Parliament, in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution, a Message on the State of the Nation.  In spite of the ravages of the pandemic, our nation is still very much in rude health, and remains very attractive to investors. Yes, we are reeling from the effects of COVID-19, but I am confident that, with the progress of the vaccination programme, we will recover quickly, and work towards putting our nation back onto the path of progress and prosperity. We are building a more inclusive society, and, soon, things will work for all in Ghana, and then we will fulfill our true potential as the Black Star of Africa.

64th Independence day celebration at Jubilee House

Sixty-four (64) years ago, we freed our nation, Ghana, from the shackles of colonialism and imperialism. We were the first nation, in colonial Africa, to gain our independence from the colonial power, and, thus, became the torchbearer of the struggle for liberation of the African continent.  We must all step up and play significant roles in the development of Ghana, our motherland. Let us bequeath to our children, their children, and generations unborn a nation of hope and opportunity, not one of despair and retrogression. Happy 64th Independence Day Celebration to all of us, and may God bless us all and our homeland Ghana, and make her great and strong.

President Akufo-Addo has through the Interior Ministry announced Monday, March 8 as a public holiday. This, according to a statement on the ministry’s website on March 1, is because the country’s Independence Day which is a Statutory Public Holiday falls on a weekend. “The general public is hereby notified that Saturday, 6th March, 2021 marks Independence Day which is a Statutory Public Holiday. However, in view of the fact that 6th March, 2021 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601) declared Monday, 8th March, 2021 as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.

The Minority MPs on the Appointments Committee today voted on the ministerial nominees so far vetted and have unanimously rejected three of the President’s nominees. Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson and Minister-designate for Food Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has been rejected for various reasons. The NDC MPs led by Haruna Iddrisu, a Ranking Member on the Committee, has unanimously decided to reject 3 candidates brought forward by the President out of the 30 candidates so far vetted.
